Connecticut proposes to amend Cadmium content in children’s jewellery

On 27 May 2015, House of Representatives in Connecticut passes House Bill 6743 to restrict Cadmium content in children’s jewellery. If passed in review, the bill will be effective since 1 October 2015.
 
According to the bill:
1. No manufacturers or distributors can offer children’s jewellery with its Cadmium concentration exceeding 300 ppm for sale in Connecticut since effective date to 1 October 2020;
2. The concentration of Cadmium in surface coatings of children’s jewellery shall not exceed 75ppm;
3. Different parts in children’s products shall be tested in accordance with the most recent stipulation in ASTM and specific test methods.
4. Manufacturers and distributors of children’s jewellery shall go through registration in Department of Consumer Protection in Connecticut;
5. Manufacturers or individuals failing to comply with requirements shall be imposed with a penalty of no more than US 5,000.
