South Korea proposes to amend chemicals of concern safety standard

On 30 September 2015, South Korea's Ministry of Environment (MoE) is consulting on amendments to the safety standards for chemicals of concern, also known as “potentially risky products”. The consultation runs until 20 October 2015.
 
As defined by the Act on the Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals (K-REACH), these are five categories of chemical products: detergents, coating adhesives, air fresheners, dyes and biocides.
 
The changes proposed are:

• to modify the standard analysis method for these products;
• to change the requirements for child-proof packaging;
• to add glues for false eyelashes to the list;
• to revise the threshold for formaldehyde-containing cyanoacrylate quick-drying glues;
• to revise the warning sign requirements on labels of adhesives; and
• to revise the requirement for a durability test on containers.
