California legislation will restrict use of lead ammunition

The California Assembly has approved a bill that will prohibit the use of lead ammunition for hunting. The legislation, Assembly Bill (AB711) is aimed at protecting the environment and wildlife from lead contamination. It will require the use of non-lead rifle and pistol ammunition for hunting, beginning no later than 1 July 2019, and includes a provision to supply hunters with replacement ammunition.

 

AB711 has gone to Governor Jerry Brown who has until 12 October to sign or veto the bill.
