National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHFPC) has released 53 national standards as regards food safety including GB 4806.1-2016 National Food Safety Standard on Food Contact Materials and Articles—General Requirements on 18 November 2016.
In the new regulatory framework of food contact materials (FCMs) of China, food contact articles are divided into different categories as per their materials, namely: enamels, ceramics, glasses, plastic resins, plastics, paper and paper board, metal materials, coatings and rubber materials. Meanwhile, the requirements for disinfect tableware and use of additives in food contact materials and articles are also updated.See the table below for more details:

The publication also covers 41 standards for relevant test methods.
It is known that the 56 Chinese national standards had been approved by the Food Safety Sub-commission under National Standard for Food Safety Review Commission by the end of 2015, which concluded the task of standard harmonisation and improved the framework for food-related standards in China. These newly released standards (except to GB 14934-2016 and GB 9685-2016) include provisions for migration test posing higher requirements for FCMs compliance.
In addition, it shall be noticed that the two general standards “GB 4806.1-2016” and “GB 9685-2016” will come into force on 19 October 2017. Meanwhile, all other FCM standard will be implemented on 19 April 2017.
