China destroys non-compliant toys imported from U.S.

Changshu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau destroyed a batch of consumer products (most of them are toys) imported from the United States as they do not comply with relevant standards. The measure adopted effectively prevents the circulation of non-compliant consumer products into the domestic market of China.

Reportedly, there are 85 cartons of such products (total: 3,610 pieces, value: USD 3,198.28), which were stock from a U.S. storage acquired by a company in Changshu. The products are in variety and most are children’s products. The test results show that major issues lie in plush and plastic toys as the following:

Plastic toys	Length of elastic loop (partial); Small parts incurring from tensile force test(partial); No product name, aging range or other Chinese identifications (all).
Plush toys	No 3C mark (all)

The difference in cognition and behavioural methods of children gives rise to potential in choking, suffocation and entrapment. To protect health and safety of children, China published the new toy safety standards GB 6675-2014 on 6 May 2014 and the standards apply since 1 January 2016. By referencing EN 71 (EU) and other international standards for toy safety, GB 6675-2014 poses higher requirements for toys on the China market.

C&K Testing advises economic operators of imported consumer products should keep an eye on mandatory standards in China. Meanwhile, imported toys are on the catalogue of mandatory product certification and shall provide 3C certification, otherwise such imported products will be destroyed or returned.
