Unfinished and untreated wood in toys requires no testing for heavy metals under ASTM F963

According to report of Federal Register on 17 July 2015, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) determined a final rule on heavy metal limits of unfinished and untreated wood under ASTM F963-11 that unfinished and untreated wood in toys requires no testing for heavy metals.
 
Unfinished and untreated trunk wood means wood harvested from trees with no added surface coatings (e.g., varnish, paint, shellac, polyurethane) and no materials added to the wood substrate (e.g., stains, dyes, preservatives, antifungals, insecticides). Unfinished and untreated wood does not include manufactured or engineered woods such as pressed wood, plywood, particle board, or fiberboard.
 
Wood with added surface coatings or that is mouthed by children in toys shall conform to solubility limits on 8 heavy metals under ASTM F963. Product manufacturers have to get third-party testing done for compliance certification.

The determination will take into force on 15 September 2015 in case that CPSC receives no major adverse comments by 17 August.
