German chain Kaufland joins Greenpeace Detox campaign

According to announcement of Greenpeace Detox on 15 Decemer 2015, Kaufland chain campaign became the 33^th to join the campaign and committed to eliminating all releases of all hazardous chemicals in apparel, footwear and home textile by 2020.
 
The campaign aims to eliminate the use and discharge of 11 priority hazardous chemical groups as follows due to their intrinsic or potential intrinsic hazardous properties:

1. alkyl phenols and their ethoxylates (APEOS);
2. phthalates;
3. brominated and chlorinated flame retardants;
4. azo dyes;
5. organotin compounds;
6. per- and poly-fluorinated chemicals (PFCs);
7. chlorobenzenes;
8. chlorinated solvents;
9. chlorophenols;
10. short chain chlorinated paraffins; and
11. heavy metals, including cadmium, lead, mercury and chromium.

 
In line with our elimination policy, Kaufland will enforce its ban on the 8 of the 11 priority hazardous chemical groups (as per endnote 8), specifically Phthalates, Brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, Azo dyes, Organotin compounds, Chlorobenzenes , Chlorinated solvents, Chlorophenols,
and Short chain chlorinated paraffins.
 
In the meanwhile, Kaufland undertakes to update the company's manufacturing restricted substance list (MRSL) annually to disclose the use and discharge of hazardous chemicals to the public.
 
As promised, it intends to publicise the use and discharge data of hazardous chemicals of its Chinese factories in 2016. C&K Testing advises companies to confirm product conformity according to the latest MRSL published by Kaufland and adjust manufacturing techniques to reduce discharge of hazardous substances.
