CPSC invites comments on banning organohalogen flame retardants

Federal Register on 14 August 2015: Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) had received a petition requesting a ban on several categories of organohalogen flame retardants. CPSC invites written comments concerning the petition. The comment period begins on 19 October 2015.
 
In petitions, the categories of products to be banned to use organohalogen flame retardants are as the following:
Infant or toddler product, children's toy, child care article, or other children's product (other than children's car seats)
Upholstered furniture;
Mattress and mattress pad; and
Electronic equipment.
 
According to the petition, organohalogen flame retardants may migrate from consumer products to remain in the indoor environment due to their physical, chemical and biological properties, which cause adverse impacts to the health, including reproductive injuries, neurotoxicity and endocrine disruption.
