In April 2011, Canada ratified the addition of these nine POPs and an updated NIP was prepared which fulfils its reporting obligation under Article 7 of the Convention.  The final version of the update was transmitted to the  Convention Secretariat in advance of the 4 April 2013 deadline, the government says.

The Canadian government has released the final version of the update to the country’s National Implementation Plan (NIP) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

Its purpose is to inform the Conference of the Parties to the Convention, and the public, of Canada’s plans, policies and programmes in place to implement its obligations with respect to the nine new persistent organic pollutants (POPs) added to the Convention in 2009.  The nine POPs are:

1.alpha hexachlorocyclohexane (Alpha-HCH);
