Ilsi publishes guidance on non intentionally added substances in food contact materials

The International Life Sciences Institute (Ilsi) has published the best practice guidance on the risk assessment of non intentionally added substances (NIAS) on 24 July 2015.
 
In plastic food contact materials, impurities, oligomers, intermediates, contaminants, byproducts and degradable products are primary NISA, which are unexpected and potentially harmful substances that may migrate from packaging materials to food products.
 
Fifty stakeholders (including EFSA) discussed the guidance on seminar held in Brussels in April 2014.
 
The guidance describes what NIAS are and obligations in supply chain. Collect information associated with NIAS and make chemical analysis during risk assessment so as to determine the characteristics of hazards as well as exposure evaluation and risk assessment.
