Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration is consulting on draft labelling requirements for plastic food containers for repetitive use including bowls, plates and dishes, according to the 11 March Gazette. The draft regulation is in accordance with the country’s Food Sanitation Management Law.

When the regulation is officially published, such food containers must be labelled with material names, heat-resistant temperature, precautions, and other appropriate warnings. Products composed of more than two kinds of materials must contain information about each one in their label.

There is a 60-day period of public consultation starting 12 March. The regulation will become effective one year after the official publication.

From July 2012, Taiwan started inspecting two additional imported plastic food packaging products including reusable microwaveable meal boxes, crispers and cups (CW 9 July 2012).
