Phase two of consultation launched on proposed MCCPs RoHS restriction

On 23 March 2016, the consultancy Risk & Policy Analysts (RPA) has launched the second phase of its public consultation on a RoHS Annex II dossier for the restriction of medium-chained chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) upon entrustment of the Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi). The public consultation contains a survey as of 6 May 2016.
 
In last September, the Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) is prepared to compile RoHS Annex II proposal to include MCCPs in EEE into RoHS. It also entrusts RPA consultants to make research and assessment. RPA plans a two phase public consultation to collect information.
 
Phase one has ended on 10 November 2015 collecting information on applications and quanities of MCCPs in EEE. However, phase two collects information on: management of Waste EEE that can contain MCCP; releases of and exposure to MCCP throughout its life cycle (including environmental monitoring), paying special attention to emissions during service life and the waste stage; alternative substances, materials or techniques, of which you are aware of, regarding their technical feasibility, availability on the market, and relevant costs for substitution.
 
The RoHS Directive of the European Union covers an extensive scope of products, including almost all of electronic and electrical equipment, medical devices, telecommunications equipment, toys and security information products. It not only include finished products, but also spare parts, raw materials and packaging intended for the production of the finished products, thus closely associated with the entire production chain. Once MCCPs are included in the directive, EEE entering the EU market shall comply with certain limits.
