The Ukraine has tightened its toy safety technical regulation by aligning it to the EU toy safety Directive, including the recently introduced provisions on chemical content. The amendment to the Regulation, known as Cabinet directive No.515, was adopted on 20 July 2013.
In line with the EU toy safety regulation, the restriction on hazardous chemical substances in toys has been increased to cover nearly 60 allergenic fragrances. The Ukrainian toy safety legislation also bans N-nitrosamine, which can be found in balloons.
“Our legislation aims to considerably reduce allergens and aromatising fragrances in locally produced and imported toys. We have many cases when the additives have caused our children various allergies. Now we fully comply with the EU toy safety Directive,” says Nikolaij Garagulya, deputy director of the Technical Regulation Department at the Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
A survey that has been proceeded by Ukraine’s State Inspectorate for the Protection of Consumer Rights shows:Out of 100,000 toys that they have checked a whopping 20,000 appeared to breach the safety regulations. Most of the violations [were] restricted chemicals in the toys.
The deputy director of the Technical Regulation Department at the Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade,Nikolaij Garagulya, says:“We have sufficiently state-of-the-art labs and equipment to make sure we can control the chemical quality of all toys”.
As one of the biggest toy import country to Ukraine, chiese company must pay attention to the change of toy regulations.
