5 April, 2018, Turkey publishes a new rule on food contact materials in the Official Gazette, replacing the previous one dated from 2011, which will be aligned with EU regulations.
The EU Food contact material Regulation came into effect in 2004, requiring the release of chemical components from these materials not to exceed at harmful level or change composition, odor or taste in an unacceptable way.
The new rules will be implemented by the end of 2018, with some exemptions for which the deadline is the end of 2019. Before the deadline for the implementation of the new regulations, enterprises must comply with the 2011 regulations. Turkey also aligns rules with the EU Regulation on active and intelligent materials intended to come into contact with food.
