Swedish agency finds hazardous substances in toys

The Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) has found hazardous substances, at levels higher than allowed by law, in 53 of the 211 toys it tested in 2012 and 2013.

Over the two years, Kemi made checks on 44 companies that manufacture, sell or import toys in Sweden. It found that several of them were not aware of some pieces of legislation that impacted their products.

Some toy companies had stringent requirements for their suppliers, while others relied mostly on them to provide toys that complied with the law.
