Swedish Chemical Agency (Kemi) has conducted a consultation on its proposal to restrict medium-chained chlorinated paraffins(MCCP) since October 2015. This proposal consulting nearly two years evaluates many aspects of the impact of MCCPs. And at this stage, Swedish Chemical Agency(Kemi) is investigating to propose the restriction of MCCPs under EU’s RoHS.

It is said, MCCPs are certified as environmentally hazardous and harm to human reproduction. They widely exist in plasticizers and flame retardants in electrical and electronic equipment. Such as, cables made of PVC.

In March of last year, consultancy Risk & Policy Analysts (RPA) carried out the second phase of public consultation, on behalf of Kemi. The new consultation, which coincides with stakeholder viewpoints focuses on the following points:

1. Scientific data;

2. Legislative issues;

3. Information on the use of MCCP and harmful effects on human health and the environment;

4. Exposure in the waste management process;

5. Alternatives to MCCP;

6. Socio-economic assessment

This stage of consultation will close in September.
