Sweden finds toxic elements in one third of jewellery

The random inspection by Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) on jewllery showed that dangerous levels of lead and cadmium present in nearly one third of jewllery.

In Kemi’s analysis, the hazards concerned the following:

  • Dangerous levels of lead and cadmium (most common problem)
  • The presence of mercury
  • Detected levels of banned azodyes

The majority of the non-compliant products were imported from Asia through the internet at low prices.

Several days ago, C&K Testing reported a piece of news with regard to the presence of heavy metals in jewellery in the China market. Alarmingly, in the worst case that the lead present in a design of necklace even exceeds 699 times as high as the limits set forth in relevant standards. (See more details)
