on 7 July, 2017, the European Commission and its Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging Risks (SCHEER) launched a public consultation on the preliminary opinion Tolerable intake of aluminium with regards to adapting the migration limits for aluminium in toys.
Early before, a tolerable daily intake (TDI) of 0.3 mg/kg bw/d is considered appropriated by the SCHEER for the calculation of migration limits for aluminium from toys and sources others than toys.
Opinions from SCHEER on aluminium migration in toys addresses:
Items | Elements | Dry, Brittle, Powder-like or pliable toy material | Liquid or Sticky toy material | Scraped-off toy material. |
2009/48/EC | Aluminium | 5625mg/kg | 1406mg/kg | 70000mg/kg |
Preliminary Opinion | Aluminium | 2250mg/kg | 560mg/kg | 28130mg/kg |
In November 2016, SCHEER had asked for reassessing current toxicology data of Aluminium, including the tolerable standards established by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives. (Reported by C&K testing in November 2016)
It is said the final revision would carry out in this autumn. C&K Testing reminds companies keep attention to the latest progress on revision, and take preparation for adaption measures.
