[RASFF] Overview of RASFF FCM notifications in January 2016

The European Commission validated 227 RASFF notifications this month, including 174 notifications on food, accounting for 86.79%; 23 notifications on feed, accounting for 10.13%; 7 notifications on food contact materials (FCMs), accounting for 3.08%.

The major hazards for the 11 notifications on FCMs are migration of hazardous substances such as formaldehyde, melamine, cadmium, manganese, aluminum epoxidised soybean Oil (ESBO), silicon elastonmere, DEHP. One notification is validated as the products are unfit for FCMs.

From the products notified in January 2016, more than half food contact materials originated from China (6 notifications, accounting for 54.55%).



The notifications are classified as border rejection, alert, information for follow-up or attention according to the risk levels.
