1-Bromopropane is a colorless to pale-yellow liquid used as a solvent in many commercial industries. It is volatile and has a strong characteristic odor. 1-Bromopropane is also called n-propyl bromide. It is primarily used as a solvent for fats, waxes or resins and in some spray adhesives and aerosol propellant applications. Also used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, insecticides, quarternary ammonium compounds, flavors, and fragrances.
The chemical was first included to the list of chemicals known to the state to cause cancer for purposes of Proposition 65 to cause reproductive toxicity for the developmental, female and male reproductive endpoints in December 2004. OEHHA further proposes to list it as a human carcinogen in July 2015 based on Thirteenth Edition of the Report on Carcinogens (NTP, 2014).
