6 March, 2018, Norway updates its national list of priority chemicals, adding dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6), three alkylphenols and the phthalates DBP, BBP and DIBP to the list.
Siloxane is a new type of environmental pollutant, mainly derived from cosmetics such as soap, skin care products, and deodorants. Siloxane D4 and D5 are already in the list of SVHC of REACH regulations. D6, as a replacement for D4 and D5, for which a restriction in wash-off cosmetic products will apply from 1 February 2020 at a concentration equal to or greater than 0.1% by weight.
The three alkylphenols are 4-tert-butylphenol and 4-tert-pentylphenol in glue, paint and varnish, and 4-n-heptylphenol in lubricants. The substances 4-tert-pentylphenol and 4-heptylphenol are on the REACH candidate list due to their endocrine disrupting properties.
The phthalates DBP, BBP and DIBP are mainly used as plasticisers in plastic materials, like cables for electrical products. They are also on the REACH candidate list for their endocrine disrupting properties.
C&K Testing reminds enterprises to pay attention to the updating of National Priority List, and strengthen the cooperation with professional testing agencies to prevent the subsequent risk.
