Chinese Port returned unqualified water purifiers imported from Germany

Foshan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau spot checked some from a batch of household water purifiers to a lab for testing. The result shows the total bacteria colony of the products exceeds the limit stipulated in related standards, leading to great risks in product safety and hygiene.
 
It is known that those water purifiers are of renowned brands in Germany (quantity: 60, value: USD 7,419). Inspection officials sent some samples to Guangdong Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center for testing after the products’ arrival at Foshan Port, Guangdong Province, China. The test proves total bacteria colony of the soaking water in the water purifier is 150CFU/mL in excess of the limit set forth in GB 5749-2006 Standards for Drinking Water Quality. According to the result, the product cannot play the role of purifying water, instead, it may lead to water pollution causing hazards to consumers. To guarantee health and safety of people, competent departments prohibited the products from entering the border and returned them according to related stipulations of Commodity Inspection Law of People’s Republic of China.
 
Water purifiers are always products of high concern. The excess of total bacteria colony indicates the raw materials of the products are polluted causing vomiting, diarrhea and other hazards. The presence of pathogenic bacteria even may threaten one’s life. Competent departments will strengthen inspection and supervision on safety and hygiene of household water purifiers to avoid such issues and forbid unqualified products from entry.
 
The imported products falling short of national standard of China cannot be offered for sale in domestic China.
