Proposal of RoHS exemptions for lead and cadmium

Two exemptions have been recommended to the European Commission, under the EU Directive on the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipment.
 
The content of this exemption proposal is as below:
1. Exempted application: cadmium used in industrial monitoring and control instruments
SN Scope Validity
  Cadmium anodes in Hersch cells for oxygen sensors used in industrial monitoring and control instruments (below 10ppm) 7 years since the exemption is granted
 
2. Exempted application: lead used in temperature measurement sensors
SN Scope Validity
26 Lead in --
-- solders on printed circuit boards;
-- termination coatings of electrical and electronic components and coatings of printed circuit boards;
-- solders for connecting wires and cables;
-- solders connecting transducers and sensors, that are used durably at a temperature below –20°C under normal operating and storage conditions; and
-- solders of electrical connections to temperature measurement sensors in devices, which are designed to be used periodically at temperatures below –150°C. (New addition)
Valid until 30 June 2021
 
 
C&K Testing reminds relevant producers to keep an eye on any change to exemption list and look for more eco-friendly substitutes to ensure products that exported to the EU market comply with the latest RoHS requirements.
