Mandatory national standard Feeding Bottle and Teat for Babies and Young Children passes review of National Standardization Technical Committees for Food Direct Contact Material and Sample Preparation in Beijing, entering its acceptance procedure. The standard is expected to be issued at the end of this year.
As is known to all, the new standard applies to feeding bottles and teats made of one or several of materials such as plastic, silicone rubber, glass, rubber and metal, covering all feeding bottles and teats for babies and young children on the market for sale. In the meantime, additional requirements for products of different materials are stipulated. For example, testing programs for fringe and pointers are established to prevent the possibility from scratches or pricks to babies and young children during the application of feeding bottles; standard for spare parts is used to prevent babies and young children from swallowing those small parts; puncture testing and tensile resistance testing as well as test template and safe retentivity performance testing aim to reduce and eliminate the risks of broken teats or separation between teats and containers caused by munching or pulling of the feeding teats when babies and young children use the feeding bottles.
Previously there was a standard of enterprise coalition, i.e., ZWX/QLB 0201-2014 Safety Requirements of Feeding-bottle for Babies and Young Children, regulating the feeding bottles.
However, Feeding Bottle and Teat for Babies and Young Children is China’s first national standard in this field. Its preparation poses higher requirements on product R&D, quality control and other aspects for producers of feeding bottle and teat.
No specific requirements are made for chemical indexes in the standard draft for consultation. But the previous standard had requirements in chemical indexes such as BPAs, phthalates, element migration and volatile substances.
