Japan intends to formulate PEN food contact products specifications and standards

On 4 February 2016, Japan issued Circular G/TBT/N/JPN/515 proposing to amend food and food additive standards and code, which target at food utensils, containers and packaging made of synthetic resins whose main component is PEN (polyethylene
naphthalate).

The following tests are required for the aforesaid products:
a. Migration test
ItemLimit
Germanium≤0.1μg/ml
Evaporites≤30μg/ml

The comment period for the circular lasts for 60 days and will be approved soon after that. It will allow for a transitional period before it takes into force.
