6 October 2017,German together with ECHA proposed to restrict the manufacturing, use, placing on the market and import of C9-C14 perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs), their salts and related substances.

In the submitted restriction proposal, PFNA, PFDA, PFUnDA, PFDoDA, PFTrDA, PFTDA and their salts and precursors are included.Those substances shall not be manufactured, used or placed on the market as substances, constituents of other substancesor in a mixture. Articles or any parts thereof containing one of the substances shall not be placed on the market.

According to the filing, the dossier submitter’s risk assessment concluded that, although no intentional uses were identified so far, a restriction on a Union-wide basis is justified to reduce the release of these substances into the environment and to prevent any future manufacturing,placing on the market and use. This EU-wide measure may be the first step for global action.
