Recently, German Environment Agency(UBA) launched the AskREACH project, in collaboration with 20 project partners from 13 EU member states, which aims to improve consumers’ awareness on risks SVHCs pose to human health and the environment. It is supposed to be a smartphone app, which available from Spring 2019.

The AskREACH project will raise awareness on Substance of Very High Concern in articles among the European population, retailers and industry. Consumers can use a smartphone app to get information on such substance or send requests for information to suppliers.

During the project, a database will be established which can be filled with information on SVHC in articles by suppliers. According to the project’s framework, the database will be connected to a smartphone app, which can be updated to all EU languages. In this condition, all citizens in EU are able to use this app in order to obtain information on SVHC in articles. if not, consumers can request information from suppliers, so that improving the information flow on SVHC between consumers and suppliers and raise supplier awareness, compliance with REACH information duties.

In addition, the smartphone app, under the framework of AskREACH project, will put the SVHC-article 33 into practice, for better inspection

Article33 On request by a consumer any supplier of an article containing a substance meeting the criteria in Article 57 and identified in accordance with Article 59(1) in a concentration above 0,1 % weight by weight (w/w) shall provide the consumer with sufficient information, available to the supplier, to allow safe use of the article including, as a minimum, the name of that substance. The relevant information shall be provided, free of charge, within 45 days of receipt of the request.
