The European Commission has amended the annexes of the EU Regulation No 1342/2014 on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) to:

  • establish minimum concentration limits for brominated diphenyl ethers and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid and its derivatives (PFOS);
  • add hexachlorobutadiene, polychlorinated naphthalenes, short-chain chlorinated paraffins and endosulfan to the list of substances controlled by the Regulation, in line with the Stockholm Convention on POPs and with the Protocol to the 1979 Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution on POPs.
The amendments will apply from 18 June 2015, to allow companies and competent authorities sufficient time to adapt to the new requirements regarding these substances.
