Helsinki,10 July 2017 – ECHA updated the candidate list of substances of very high concern (SVHCs), adding the substance PFHxS to the Candidate List and updating the existing entries for Bisphenol A (BPA) and four Phthalates to include their endocrine-disrupting properties affecting human health. There are totally 174 substances included in the candidate list till now. This amendement is based on proposal from Sweden.

Early before, Sweden proposed the PFHxS should identified as SVHC, which got support from ECHA. PFHxS belongs to the group of polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFASs), which widely used in plasticisers, lubricants, surfactants, wetting agents, corrosion inhibitors and firefighting foams. It mainly exists in flame retardant with very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB) properties.

Besides adding PFHxS to the list, ECHA updated the existing entries for benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), bis(2-ehthylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl (DBP) and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) .

Substanceof BPA have been included in Candidate List in January due to its toxicity to reproduction – C&K Testing reported in January 2017. And this update focus on including their endocrine – disrupting properties affecting human health. It is said, BPA is mainly used in manufacture of polycarbonate, as a hardener for epoxy reins.

ECHA reminds, Companies may have legal obligations resulting from the inclusion of the substance in the Candidate List. These obligations may apply to the listed substance on its own, in mixtures or in articles. In particular, any supplier of articles containing a Candidate List substance above a concentration of 0.1% (weight by weight) has communication obligations towards customers down the supply chain and consumers.

In addition, importers and producers of articles containing the substance have six months from the date of its inclusion in the Candidate List (7 July 2017) to notify ECHA. For further information, please attention to C&K Testing.
