A Czech NGO, the Arnika Association, has examined hundreds of pieces of printed china dishes imported or manufactured locally and found 90% of such products containing alarmingly high concentration of lead in the order of tens of thousands.

As reported by C&K Testing, a lead restriction for products to be placed in the mouth by children under REACH has applied since 1 June. But china dishes for children are still beyond the scope for the tightening of the legislation.

Great risks are posed when toxic substances are present in products that in direct contact with food (such as food packaging, kitchen utensils and plates). The Arnika Association hopes the EU legislation can be improved to strengthen regulation of such products.
