[CPSC] Overview of CPSC notifications on recalls in May 2017

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls 30 batches of products in May 2017. There are 17 batches of Chinese products, accounting for 56.70%.

The car seat can disengage from the stroller’s frame, posing a fall hazard to infants.

Online at Amazon.com, Babies R Us.com, Target.com and other online retailers from June 2015 through September 2016 for between $350 and $400 for the stroller and the car seat when sold together.

Motorized window coverings with lithium batteries

China

The lithium batteries that power the motorized window coverings can overheat, leak or discharge, posing fire and burn hazards.

Budget Blinds, Gotcha Covered, Home Depot, Lowe’s, JC Penney, Menards and independent Graber dealers nationwide, and online at Blinds.com from December 2015 through November 2016 for between $250 and $1,000.

The women’s scarves fail to meet federal flammability standard for clothing textiles, posing a risk of burn injuries to consumers.

The mug’s lid does not fit securely and can cause liquids to leak from the bottom of the lid when tilted, posing a burn hazard. Also, the mug does not have a silicone hand wrap so the consumer could burn their hand on the side walls of the mug.

The acceleration pedal on the ride-on toys can stick, posing fall and crash hazards.

The Surge 12V Camo 4X4 was sold at Walmart nationwide between June 2016 and March 2017 for about $300. The Surge 12V XL Quad sold at Academy Sports + Outdoors stores nationwide from September 2016 through March 2017 for between $150 and $200. The Tonka 12V Might Dump Truck was sold at Toys R Us stores nationwide and online at ToysRUs.com from July 2016 through November 2016 for about $350.

Seat slider bolts and push nuts can disconnect and fall from the chair, which could cause the seat to detach from the chair, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

Digital clamp meters

China

The meters can fail to give an accurate voltage reading, resulting in the operator falsely believing the electrical power is low or off, posing an electrocution hazard.

Extech received two reports of clamp meters displaying an incorrect voltage reading. No injuries have been reported.

Cordless electric lawn mowers

China

The circuit board in the lawn mower can short circuit and catch fire, posing a fire hazard to users.

Lowe’s and other retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Lowes.com and other websites from 2014 through July 2016 for about $350.

Accompanying remedies (refund, replacement and repair) are taken for such notifications.

As notified on the CPSC website, some customers have already got injured due to the potential hazards.
