Shaanxi Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (Shaanxi Province, China) officials found dangerous levels of heavy metals in a batch of fashion jewellery made of base metals from Japan, posing serious hazard.
Brackets, necklaces, rings and earrings are involved (quantity: 4,216, value: 2,435,000 yens ). The sampling inspection of the said products shows five designs contain dangerous levels of lead. Alarmingly, the lead content even reaches 472 times as much as the limit set forth in GB28480-2012 Adornment—Provision for limit of baneful elements. The violations cover 2,373 products (value: 1,286,650 yens). Officials issued notification for further treatment and return the non-compliant products by laws.
Majority of fashion jewllery is subject to surface plating. Hazardous element is likely to migrate from the imitation jewllery to the human body as it is absorbed by the skin, and long-term contact may lead to contact dermatitis and other diseases.
C&K Testing reminds that products offered for sale in China shall comply with relevant requirements in Chinese standards and any non-compliance during the inspecting can result in punishment.
