China Light Electric Vehicles and Batteries Product Quality Supervision & Inspection Center and China Electric Bicycle Quality Supervision & Inspection Center conducted national random inspection of electric bicycles.

The legal basis for the inspection includes GB17761-1999 Electric bicycles – General technical requirements, (X) XK16-002 Implementation rules on production license of moped vehicles.

The inspection covers 80 lots of products from 11 regions including Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, He’nan, Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi and Sichuan. The result shows 10 lots of them are non-compliant.

The problems exposed from the campaign are as below:

1. Maximum speed.

2. Vibration strength of bracelet/fort sets.

3. Speed limiting device

4. Handle bar stems

5. Whole bicycle quality/weight

6. Pedals clearance

7. Clamping strength of seats adjustment

8. Insulation properties

9. Braking power-off properties

10. Under-voltage and overflow protection

Standardisation Administration of China (SAC) notified Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) to revise the mandatory national standard GB17761-1999 Electric bicycles – General technical requirements on 10 Feb. 2017.

Undoubtedly, the move propels more stringent technical requirements for the industry, which means greater difficulty for market access. C&K Testing collaborating with national authorities can help you to check product safety by virtue of technology.
