China approves two substances in food contact materials

On 6 February 2017, National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHFPC) approves the safety assessment of two food contact materials:

Pentaerythritol tetrakis [3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionate], CAS NO. 6683-19-8, listed in the standard GB 9685-2008 National Food Safety Standard - Standard for the use of additives for food contact materials and articles, allowed for the use of plastics (17 categories), rubber, coatings and adhesives. The application expands its scope in Polybutylene -1 and the maximum usage is 0.05mg/kg. US, EU and Japan all allow the use of resins in plastic food contact materials.

Poly[imino(2-methyl-1,4-cyclohexanediyl) methylene(3-methyl-1,4-cyclohexanediyl) imino(1,12-dioxo-1,12-dodecanediyl)] CAS NO. 163800-67-7, known as polyamide (PA). The notification allows the use of the resins in food contact materials and articles. It also sets a specific limit of 0.05mg/kg for 4,4’-diaminodicyclohexylmethane. US, EU and Japan all allow the use of resins in plastic food contact materials.
