CEN publishes a new safety standard EN 71-5:2015 for toys

European Commission for Standardization (CEN) approved Safety of toys - Part 5: Chemical toys (sets) other than experimental sets (EN 71-5:2015) to supersede EN 71-5:2013 on 10 August 2015. The new standard will be formally published on 31 March 2016.

EN 71-5:2015, a coordinative standard for DIRECTIVE 2009/48/EC, specifies safety requirements and test methods for substances and mixtures in chemical toys that in the EU market. These substances and mixtures are: (1) those classified as dangerous by the EC-legislation applying to dangerous substances and dangerous mixtures; (2) substances and mixtures which in excessive amounts could harm the health of the children using them and which are not classified as dangerous by the above mentioned legislation; (3) and any other chemical substance(s) and mixture(s) delivered with the chemical toy.

In addition, the standard sets forth for labeling, warning, safety code, content list, introduction and rescue information.
