Recently, California’s Department of Toxic Substance (DTSC) has listed children’s foam-padded sleeping products containing the flame retardants TDCPP or TCEP as the first priority product under the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) effective 1 July.

DTSC determined that children’s foam -padded sleeping products combining TDCPP or TCEP has the potential to cause significant adverse health impacts. Both TDCPP and TCEP are known to cause cancer and have been associated with endocrine disruption and reproductive and developmental toxicity.

According to the effective date of July 1, 2017, Manufacturers of these children’s sleeping products will be required to notify the Department within 60 days.

Next step, Spray Polyurethane Foam System and Paint Strippers Containing Methylene Chloride would also be listed as priority product.

C&K Testing reminds related companies should keep attention on progress, avoiding technical barriers to trade.
