Brazil bans toys containing 1,4 butanediol

On 10 March 2016, the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) of Brazil has published Portaria No.99/2016 to approve the adjustments to the Technical Regulation for toys regarding the prohibition of toys containing 1,4 butanediol. It entered into force immediately.

1,4-butanediol (abbreviated BDO) is an important organic chemical raw materials and fine, colorless viscous oily liquid, flammable. Inhalation may cause respiratory tract irritation, skin may cause skin irritation, Harmful if swallowed.

1,4-butanediol (1,4-butanediol, referred BDO), you can generate a variety of derivatives, such as THF, PTMEG, GBL and the like. BDO and its derivatives are widely used in plastics PBT, spandex, polyurethanes, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other fields.
