In May 2015, ASTM released the new standard ASTM F3118-5 for infant inclined sleep products, which set forth safety and labeling requirements for infant inclined sleep products.

An infant inclined sleep product is a freestanding product intended to provide sleeping accommodations for an infant up to approximately 5 months of age, that is supported by a stationary or rocker base with one or more inclined sleep surface positions for the seat back that are greater than 10° and that do not exceed 30° from the horizontal.

ASTM F3118-5 provides for general requirements, performance requirements and those for marking and labeling. To name a few, general requirements include any paint or surface coating must comply with 16 CFR 1303, no hazardous sharp points or edges, no small part choking hazards, no finger entrapment hazards associated with openings in any rigid materials; performance requirements include requirements for stability, height, folding and structure; and requirements for warning statements and packaging on the product.

There are trade barriers for the export of children’s products from China to the United States. For instance, child car seats, children’s pajamas and other children’s products are always notified in the U.S. market (Entry of our notification recall for more details). So exporters who take U.S. as the targeted market shall learn about relevant standards and bills earnestly, and make compliance testing to overcome technical barriers.
