22 February 2018, the American Apparel & Footwear Association released the 19th edition of the Restricted Substance List (RSL), the industry’s chemical management resource listing banned or restricted chemicals and substances for finished apparel, footwear, and home textile products around the world.
The 19th edition of the RSL covers 12 categories with more than 250 chemicals and is updated to reflect additions or changes to regulations and laws that restrict or ban certain chemicals in finished apparel, footwear, and home textile products.
Compared with the previous edition, the 19th edition mainly updates the requirements of 8 kinds of substance, including aromatic amine, Dioxin, flame retardant, Ammonium perfluorooctanoate, phthalates, dissolvent, insecticide and blue dye. It also adds 4 kinds of flame retardant.
The ever-changing regulations around the globe make it hard for textile-related enterprises to follow up the latest requirements. However, the RSL helps businesses to obtain an overview of regulated substances and limits. C&K Testing remind enterprises to pay attention to the revision of RSL published by AAFA, and understand overall control requirements for textile, clothing and footwear products to guarantee the product quality and prevent the subsequent risk efficiently.
